Hey everyone! Sorry this took so long to get out but here is what happened at Fall Dinghy PCC’s s, formally known as North/South.
Two weekends ago, November 13-14, the anteaters went to Santa Barbara to compete against twenty teams from both in the Pacific Coast Conference and outside of it. This regatta is special because it incorporates not only an A and B CFJ fleet but a Laser Full Rig C Fleet as well. Jack Porter and his crew Chris Huang took the tough job of sailing in A fleet, Rex Cameron and his crew Blair Johnston were given a challenge to dominate B fleet, and William Larsen sailed the C Fleet.
The conditions there were fairly consistent. The regatta was sailed just off the break wall in the ocean and there were no rotations. This allowed us to sail more races, but it definitely took its toll mentally from the anteaters. The wind started off fairly light and would build to a solid nine knots and then slowly died down as the sun set.
The weekend was a roller coaster ride results wise, Jack Porter had a good start of the weekend but the non-rotational regatta definitely began to show and he had a few bad races towards the end of each day that ultimately put him in sixth in A fleet. Rex Cameron rose to the challenge and DOMINATED the B fleet. Rex won five out of the thirteen races and his lowest place was a sixth. He won the B fleet for the Anteaters, ending the weekend with a total of 35 points. In C fleet William Larsen sailed for the first time on a laser full rig in four years. He held his own for the Anteaters and had a rough first day but on the second day he did not place lower than an eighth. Overall, the Anteater’s finished strong, but still show room for improvement. We finished sixth overall, and ended up fifth in our district.
A lot of people helped us for this regatta. First we would like to thank the University of California: Santa Barbara Sailing Team for hosting eleven Anteaters for the weekend! We would also like to thank The Davidson family for lending the team a good Laser with an awesome setup! Also we would like to thank the USC sailing team for letting us practice with them on our way up Friday afternoon.
ZOT ZOT ZOT!
