This past weekend (April 12th, and 13th) marked the South 5 Designate
Regatta. We sent a team packing lots of Zot out to the Long Beach Yacht
Club where USC was hosting the event. On Saturday, Varsity B was skippered
by Sam with Kathryn crewing. In Varsity A, there was Nick skippering with
Deanne as crew. In JV team A, there was Kate skippering with Daniel as
crew. In JV team B, there was James skippering with Asher as crew. Sunday
had almost the same teams, with the exceptions of Philip skippering and
Daniel crewing in JV team B. In JV, team A also had the change of Kate
crewing for Nick. Saturday was a hot, sunny, and sunscreen filled day. The
ride from the yacht club out to the pier was very long and it took quite
some time for the race committee to get things started. This was partly due
to the Congressional Cup that was taking place in the same
area. It was high winds all day, which made for perfect sailing. There was
also a considerable amount of chop, which made this So Cal regatta feel a
little bit like a Bay area regatta.
Sunday was more of a relaxed day. Much more overcast than Saturday, but it
burned off in the early afternoon. The wind and waves had calmed down and
made for considerably easier sailing. Each team sailed two sets and called
it a day. The Anteaters ended up placing 6th and securing their spot to the
upcoming PCC Champs in Hawaii.
