A full weekend (Oct. 5 & 6) of racing began Saturday morning when returning sailors Daniel Diaz, Ellen Suder, Finn Sheehan, Kathryn Benight and James Heller took to the water with new sailors Sean Wu and Paul Traverso. Only first and second year sailors are allowed to compete, making the regatta an ideal experience-building event. Saturday saw plenty of sunshine and heat with a nice consistent breeze, making it easy for returning skippers Ellen and James and first time skipper Daniel to navigate the course. Finn, Kathryn, Sean and Paul rotated through the crew positions, with first-timers Sean and Paul quickly learning racing strategy in true sink-or-swim fashion. Sunday began with lighter wind, though it did fill in the afternoon. With more time on the water, everyone showed great improvement in tactics and boat handling. For a regatta designed to introduce new sailors to racing, it was an absolute success.
