PCCSC Champs in Hawaii

Last weekend (April 26th and 27th) we brought five Varsity sailors to Hawaii to compete in PCC Champs. Sam skippered in A with Kathryn and Kate crewing, and Nick skippered in B with Deanne as his crew. The weather was hot and muggy, but nothing too extreme. Saturday was a very long day of sailing; the wind had a base of about 15-18mph with 22-25mph gusts. It was very shifty the entire day. It was pretty windy, but the warm water and weather made it a bit more bearable, despite t...

by Sam with Kathryn crewing. In Varsity A, there was Nick skippering with

Deanne as crew. In JV team A, there was Kate skippering with Daniel as

crew. In JV team B, there was James skippering with Asher as crew. Sunday

This past weekend, April 5-6, the Anteaters sent a mighty team

of four to Women's PCCs in Santa Barbara. The team rose bright and early in

Irvine Saturday morning by 0600 and was out in the Santa Barbara sun (fun

fact: same sun as in Irvine) and on the water by 1030. The A team then

promptly sat on that water until 1200 while the wind took its sweet time

settling in. The teams got to sail fresh new boats with brand new sails and

did rotations off ribs (rigi...

This past weekend (March 1st and 2nd) we sent our Varsity team to the McIntrye Team Race hosted by Stanford. Kate, Sam and Nick skippered with Mahmoud, Kathryn, and Deanne crewing.

Racing started right away Saturday morning because there was a good amount of wind. From there, racing continued at a fast pace almost the entire day. Rotations were back to back; our team was constantly on the water with little down time. Racing continued at this pace on Sunday as well. By...

This past weekend (March 1st and 2nd) we sent our JV Anteater team to compete

in Cal Team Race at Treasure Island. James, Ellen, and Bridget skippered

while Keith (first regatta!) and our lovely friends from UCSD, Alex and

Yuhui, crewed. The lot of us have had minimal team racing experience, so we

did our best to start well, sail fast, and roll with the punches--er, mark

traps. After each race we discussed what we could have done better to help

South 3/4 Regatta

Posted by Anteater Sailing Team on March 4, 2014 at 12:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Saturday February 22nd and Sunday the 23rd were the South 3 and 4 regattas, both hosted at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.  On both days, sailors rotated off a floating dock in the harbor between races, providing an up-close (if crowded) view of every race when we weren’t sailing. The weather both days was pleasant, but Saturday was fairly light, with a postponement in the morning and at least one race abandoned when the wind died completely. Even so, each division managed five races...
