2011 UCI Sailing’s Nick Scandone Memorial Regatta
Notice of Race
March 12, 2011
1. RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing
1.2 The Organizing Authority (OA) is the University of California, Irvine Sailing Team
(UCIST) or “Anteaters”.
2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1 This regatta is open to J-22s. Three (3) boats are required to constitute a class
eligible for a start and trophies.
2.2 Eligible boats may enter by showing up at the UCI Sail Base, ready to sail and
have a good time. Showing up will include snacks and beverages during the
regatta, post-racing dinner, beverages, and trophy presentation.
2.3 A representative from each boat must check-in with the RC boat once on the
racecourse on Saturday, March 12 2011 between 1330-1400.
3. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Saturday 3/5/11
Check-In 1300-1320
Skippers Meeting 1320
First Warning 1400
No Start After 1630
Trophies after racing
3.2 Please refer to the attached document “Event Information” for further information
regarding the schedule of events – including meals – not related to racing.
4. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing instructions will be available upon check-in at the UCI Sail Base.
5. RACING AREA
‐ Buoy racing will commence in the area that we call “the turning basin” even
though it’s not.
‐ A permanent mark race will commence around the entire Newport Harbor.
6. THE COURSES
‐ The courses for the buoy races will be modified windward-leeward courses.
‐ The course for the permanent mark race will be determined by the RC. Racers
will be informed of course and will be able to reference said course on course
chart.
7. SCORING
7.1 Two (2) races are required to be completed to constitute a series. But we’re really
shootin’ for three….
8. TROPHIES
Actually, A trophy (just one) will be awarded to the class winner before dinner
post racing.

9. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage and injury. Competitors
in this race participate entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The
race organizers (OA, Ratings Authority, Race Committee, Protest Committee, host
club, sponsors, or any other organization or official) will not be responsible for
damage to any boat or other property or the injury to any competitor, including
death, sustained as a result of participation in this race. By participating in this
race, each competitor agrees to release the race organizers from any and all
liability associated with such competitor’s participation in this event to the fullest
extent permitted by law.
