The Anteaters started the season off sending nine people to the first regatta of the year, Triton Open and Triton Frosh/Soph in Mission Bay. Our returning sailors, Brian MacLean and Philip Tagatac, skippered in Open with new and dedicated crews, Ali Sepasyar and Kate Bartley. They pulled off a solid sixth place out of twelve in very light wind with great practice in roll tacks and fine boat handling. Carrie Brewer and new and upcoming sailor Brian Dizon sailed their first regatta in the Frosh/Soph fleet. They powered through the rough conditions and got some great fleet racing practice. As the first regatta of the season, the weekend ended up being a perfect intro to college sailing for our incoming sailors as the races proved to be very demanding of boat handling where on-the-water tactics weren’t as vital to doing well. The weekend became a great opportunity for team bonding and everyone had a great time in San Diego. The team is looking forward to future regattas and improving everyone’s performance in the collegiate sailing arena. This was also our first event with our new full-time coach Matt Peter providing advice to our skippers. He proved valuable to the team and we also look forward to having him make significant improvements to the performance of our relatively green sailing team and we make a fresh start.
