UCSD Open/Frosh-Soph

The Anteaters started the season off sending nine people to the first regatta of the year, Triton Open and Triton Frosh/Soph in Mission Bay. Our returning sailors, Brian MacLean and Philip Tagatac, skippered in Open with new and dedicated crews, Ali Sepasyar and Kate Bartley. They pulled off a solid sixth place out of twelve in very light wind with great practice in roll tacks and fine boat handling. Co-ed Pacific Coast Championship

The Coed Pacific Coast Championship was held at Stanford on May 1st and 2nd. The wind was fair both days, averaging 10 to 15 knots, and steadily increased through the afternoon. Nick Weis and Daniel Diaz represented UC Irvine in varsity A fleet, coming in at 9th place. Sam Heller and Brian Maclean represented our school in varsity B fleet, coming in at 5th place. Women's Pacific Coast Championship

The PCCSC Women's Championship started off on Saturday, April 18, with light wind that built throughout the day and somewhat choppy conditions; on Sunday, the breeze picked up much faster, finishing up the rotations by early afternoon. Ellen Suder, Addie Whittet, Frances Liu, and MJ O'Neill represented the Anteaters, placing 11th in the A division and 12th in B. The event was a challenging but exciting experience for everyone.

Cardinal Invite

In Cardinal (gold) we had skipper, Bryan MacLean with his crew Philip Tagatac. In White (silver) we had skippers: Nick Weis, Daniel Diaz, and Sam Heller, with their crews Addie Whittet, Robin Fales, and Carrie Brewer. Each team started out in FJ’s, followed by z420’s. We had heavy wind conditions the first day on Saturday, especially towards the end of the day. St. Frances Invite

Last weekend, the UC Irvine sailing team traveled all the way up to St. Francis Yacht Club based just east of the Golden Gate Bridge to sail in the St. Francis Invitational. The team battled 25-knot winds and extremely heavy current and waves in a very competitive fleet to pull out a sixth place overall out of 27, qualifying for Pacific Coast Championships. South Designate Regatta

The Anteaters competed at the end of March in Long Beach in the South Designate Regatta. Saturday was a beautiful day in SoCal with temperatures in the 80s and consistent breeze; a perfect day for sailing. The courses consisted of single and double leeward windward legs. On Sunday temperatures dropped to a frigid 72 degrees by SoCal standards.

Anteater Open

Last weekend (February 14th - 15th), the Anteaters hosted the Anteater Open in our home port of Newport Harbor Yacht Club. Varsity Seniors Nick Weis and Sam Heller took on the role of race committee while we sent three A teams and two B teams to participate in the regatta. Saturday turned out to be extremely light wind requiring expert boat handling and good starts. There was a bit more wind on Sunday but the shifty and puffy conditions put both the race committee and the sailors to the test....

Jeff Simon Memorial Regatta

The Anteaters ventured south to Mission Bay this past weekend for the Jeff Simon Memorial Regatta which hosted 8 schools, all divided up into a total of 22 teams for each A and B fleet. Rose Bowl Regatta

The Anteaters traveled to Long Beach for the first regatta of 2015. Saturday started out with light breeze from the south so racing was postponed until 12:30 when the breeze started to fill in. The Anteaters trekked up to Santa Barbara on November 15th for a weekend of sailing. 16 sailors made the journey, many of them excited to participate in their first regatta!
